Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur has responded to Shreyas Iyer’s omission from India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad. The BCCI announced India’s squad on August 19 and Iyer’s snub has been one of the major talking points since the announcement.

Shreyas Iyer has done everything right in T20I cricket in recent times and yet he was not selected for the tournament. He scored over 600 runs in IPL 2025, taking the Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final. In 2024, he led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third IPL title.

Besides that, he has also tasted success with Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He also scored over 300 runs in the tournament at a strike rate of 188. Among the current batters playing T20I cricket, Iyer is the fifth-highest run-getter for India in T20Is.

“I cannot say that because it is the decision of the selectors and the board. So we cannot say anything about that. But I cannot say anything about that because it is not in my hands,” he told ANI on the sidelines of the inauguration of the MCA Sharad Pawar Museum at Wankhede Stadium.

He further said that Shreyas Iyer is a very strong player and he will score runs whenever he gets an opportunity to play for India in T20Is.
